Abstract
Ehregott Friedrich Pannach and His Book Collection
When discussing the rare, oldest books in the Upper and Lower Sorbian languages, the name of their collector also comes up: E. Fr. Pannach (1761–1826). This article describes his collection as well as his biographical and bibliographical writings in the context of the publications by his father, Petrus Pannach, and his brother, Samuel Traugott Pannach. However, the focus is primarily on the eventful history of this small but most significant book collection, which was available to Sorbian scholars in Bautzen for 100 years. In 1929, it was brought to Leipzig by the Wendish Preachers’ Society, and around 1960, a private bookseller sold it on the antiquarian market.
